Acceptable Use

What the site holds, and what must not be entered.

Legal Binders is a library of law and an office's own work product for prosecutors. It is not a case management system and is not a place for case records.

What the site holds

  • Statutes, court rules and published court opinions, pulled from official and published sources. Any names or facts in them are ones courts and legislatures have already made public.
  • Summaries of pattern jury instructions, and an office's licensed copies where it uploads them.
  • An office's own templates and guidance: outlines, checklists, model motions and practice notes.
  • Account information for the people an office invites: name, work email and the office's Profile and Role for them.

What must not be entered

  • Defendant, victim or witness names, dates of birth, addresses, identification numbers or contact details.
  • Case numbers, police reports, discovery, evidence or any record from a pending or closed case.
  • Criminal history or other information drawn from criminal justice information systems.

Documents an office adds should be written as templates and guidance that apply to any case of that type. Where an example is useful, use invented names and facts.

Starting content

The binders arrive with starting content prepared from public statutes, court rules and published opinions. It is a starting point, not legal advice. Each office's Approvers review and approve it before the office's attorneys can see it.
